We Make: Tan & Brass Form Jewellery

Form is a collection of minimal, geometric jewellery inspired by mid-century modernist art and architecture. Combining solid metals and clean slices of Formica each piece is designed and assembled in our studio on the East coast of Scotland. The Form aesthetic is super simple, but minimal design also means precision, focus and attention to every last detail. We're lucky to have three amazing jewellers that work with us at Tom Pigeon and they work together to create every necklace, bangle, earring or cufflink.

It's important to us that Tom Pigeon products are created by skilled local makers and manufacturers and that we use local and British businesses whenever we can.  For the Form collection we work with a family-run business on the West Coast of Scotland to precision etch our brass and copper and with a laser cutter in the hills above our studio to cut the huge sheets of Formica laminate. Our bespoke brass stitched boxes are made in Sheffield by a company established in the 1800's and use a traditional method dating back to the early 20th Century.

Back at the jewellery bench, the metals are polished and filed, and each tiny section of Formica is cleaned and prepared for assembly. Beth, Anaïs and Beth (number 2) then hand-craft each piece in the collection, bonding brass with Formica, filing, finishing, polishing, waxing and boxing with amazing attention to detail.

The Tan & Brass collection is about warmer, natural tones reminiscent of well-worn vintage leather. We're thinking it's the perfect summer combination - think white t-shirts, sunshine, sandals, beach walking and rolled up denim.
